Leading Retail Customer Solutions Provider in the US
The customer is one of the world’s leading retail solution companies operating in the United States.
Business Challenge
- The customer faced the following challenges:
- Heavy gateway script in their API assembly and complex custom policies across their thousands of APIs running on IBM API Connect V5.
- Migration challenges for their 1000+ APIs to the IBM API Connect V10 environment.
- Requirement for sophisticated auto-scaling for their IBM DataPower Gateway running on AWS.
Why Amazon Web Services
The customer chose AWS to leverage the scalability, security, and reliability of the AWS Cloud for their API management solution. Additionally, AWS provided a range of services and automation capabilities to simplify the deployment and management of their API gateway infrastructure.
The AWS Solution
- The solution involved the following:
- Migration of IBM API Connect V5.x and DataPower from on-premises to API Connect V10.x on Cloud Pak for Integration (CP4I) V2020.4 running on AWS.
- Installation of operators related to CP4I and enabling the Platform Navigator.
- Installation, configuration, and administration of API Connect V10.x and CP4I V2020.4.
- Automation of the migration from V5.x to a V10.x deployment using the API Migration Utility (AMU) tool.
- Migration of custom policies and gateway extensions from V5 to V10.
- The solution leveraged the following AWS services:
- Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for running the OCP Cluster
- Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) to provide a secure, isolated network environment
- AWS Auto Scaling for automatically scaling the API Connect V10 and DataPower API Gateways based on demand
- Application Load Balancer (ALB) for load balancing and distributing traffic across the APIC deployment
- Autoscaling of API Connect V10 resources based on demand using AWS Auto Scaling
- Autoscaling of API Connect V10 resources based on demand using AWS Auto Scaling
- DNS management and routing traffic to the API Connect V10 deployment using Amazon Route 53
- Persistent storage for API Connect V10 components using Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS)
- Amazon CloudWatch for logging, monitoring, and alerting
